Practicing the Future

SoundMap ensemble is a contemporary music group focused on promoting, developing and producing creative sound projects. We use creative spaces as a way to empower communities by art, by promoting artists, creating new works, developing the concert experience, and building resilient, interconnected communities.

Based in Austin, SoundMap invests in New Music through Performance, Recordings, Commissions and Educational programs. Our programming focuses on the issues of our time, providing opportunities to underrepresented communities and young artists, and connecting local, national and international production. This range of activities impacts the general public, musicians, audiophiles, contemporary artists, and youth. Our goal is through creativity to build a vision of the future.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide an internationally renowned contemporary music ensemble, in continuous dialogue with the issues of our time and our communities. SoundMap aims to maintain a sustainable organizational structure, setting the trends of music creation.

By offering vibrant and unique year-round programing for our audiences, the organization seeks to develop new spaces of artistic research, including music technology development, and promoting new interdisciplinary practices pairing Opera, Video, or Dance. Visioning the future, SoundMap aims to provide young generations a space to develop new ideas, while providing local and international creatives to connect.

Biography

The field of possibilities for creating sounds has long gone beyond the simple organization of notes. We seek to create a more inclusive and humanist approach, a space where all sounds can interact to create music.

Soundmap strives to create sound models that offer new possibilities of what music can be. In a more playful and diverse look on music, in a more inclusive and ecological environment, where the diversity of all sounds can take place. If it is up to art to go beyond what we thought was reality, it remains up to the artist to question reality.

We are Soundmap, an Austin-based contemporary chamber orchestra founded in 2022 and dedicated to new horizons, new repertoire, and a new space for collaboration between composers and performers. The group consists of experienced Austin musicians and a young generation of musicians who think of music as a space for questioning society and music as a vehicle for their own voice.
